LG GT540 Review

Overview
The LG GT540 is a simple and low-cost smartphone with a fast web browser and plenty of applications.

Pros
The look of the LG GT540 is interesting, adding a twist on the standard bar-style design of smartphones. The top and bottom of the phone are rounded and topped off with a silver line on the corners to highlight the spherical nature of the handset.

The majority of the navigation is controlled through the LG GT540’s 3-inch screen although there is a wavy joined trio of buttons beneath the screen for calling, going to the menu and returning to the previous screen. Similarly, once you are on the touchscreen, you can use the icons along the base as shortcuts for areas like the menu and making a call.

When you use the phone, you may or may not notice the screen is resistive, like on the HTC Tattoo. Unlike smartphones with capacitive screens like the Google Nexus One, the screen requires a bit of resistance to carry out your finger commands. Sometimes this is a good thing as at least you don’t have to worry about accidentally launching applications – and the screen is sensitive enough to ensure a good mobile experience.

You can spin the LG GT540 on its side when a landscape view is preferable – either when online or taking a photo. The camera on the phone is 3-megapixels so the quality of images is fine, especially if you make the most of the autofocus and the ability to alter the lighting. The camera key on the side of the phone means you can take quick snaps too.

Like the GW620, the LG GT540 is an Android smartphone. This means there are lots of widgets to fill up all seven home screens on the phone plus access to the Android Market should you want to download any more. The handset comes with social networking sites integrated, and there are widgets for Bebo, Facebook and Twitter and all come with live updates so you hopefully won’t miss another status change or tweet again.

If you like listening to music on your phone, you should be happy with the LG GT540 as there is a music player and FM radio. The Motion UI Player boosts your enjoyment as you can control what you listen to by a quick shake of the phone, which forwards or rewinds tracks for you.

Conclusion
The LG GT540 is destined to be a stylish smartphone which is affordable and enjoyable to use. As soon as additional details on this mobile phone are available, we’ll let you know.
