LG GD510 Pop Review
Overview
Stylish, small, responsive, inexpensive – just some of the reasons the LG GD510 Pop is a good touchscreen phone.
Pros
The simple design is appealing and the LG GD510 Pop is a good looking phone. The front consists mainly of the 3 inch touchscreen which has a rim of black glass around it, and one button on the bottom of the phone’s silver exterior. Light silver around the front edges, sides and bottom – flip the Pop over and its back is dark silver with a brushed aluminium effect.
Navigating the phone is easy and friendly thanks to its touch interface, which is a budget version of the one found on the LG S-Class phones such as the
LG Viewty Smart. Press the button on the front of the phone and the screen comes to life – you also use this button for answering and making calls. There are three home screens which you can customise. All the shortcuts to your favourite features are on the first home screen and you can swap these around as often as you like. Simply slide the ones you want across from the widget tray to the home screen, and those you no longer want from the home screen to the widget tray.
There is a good variety of applications available on the LG GD510 Pop. You can choose between the social networking app for accessing MySpace, Facebook and Twitter; pocket apps for opening features like Mind Selector, Running Mate and Sound Tuner; FM radio; mini music player; weather widget; and notes app.
You can also customise the second and third home screens which are used for arranging contacts’ information and viewing the recent communication activity.
The colours and definition of the touchscreen are impressive and the ease of scrolling through home screens or web pages is almost as good as on the
iPhone. There are two virtual keyboards on the LG GD510 Pop, a QWERTY one which is only available when the phone is in landscape view, and an alphanumeric one. The keys on the boards are not the largest but still sufficient for comfortable typing. You can send texts or emails easily enough on the Pop. The email function also lets you open and view Word, Excel and PDF files.
The LG GD510 Pop has an inbuilt 3-megapixel camera for taking pictures on the go. And with the 8GB internal storage space, you can keep plenty of photos on your phone or share them with friends via the Bluetooth connection.
Cons
You won’t be able to access the internet effortlessly as the Pop does not have support for 3G or Wi-Fi, although you can browse the web.
The features on the LG GD510 Pop are similar to those on the
LG Cookie and although the interface and touchscreen are better, the Pop does not offer a whole lot more.
Conclusion
With the optional solar cover for the battery so you can charge the phone using the sun, the LG GD510 Pop can boast some green credentials alongside style, pocket-friendly size and wallet-friendly price. The Pop is the smallest touchscreen phone around at the moment and offers a fun and interactive experience for phone users.
