Introduction
The LG KM900 Arena is the successor to the
LG KC910 Renoir and is due for release in March 2009. There are several noticeable improvements that can be found on the KM900 Arena, noticeably the new interface and improved quality screen resolution. In essence the LG Arena takes over from its older brother the
LG Renoir.
Specifications
The LG Arena comes with a 5 megapixel camera that will allow for "DVD like quality" video recording, according to the manufacturers. We are yet to see the quality of the camera in the flesh, but the early signs are that it is an improvement on the
Renoir´s camera. The Arena will also support Div-X playback, allowing a wider range of media content to be uploaded.
The big improvement to the
LG Arena is in the new User interface. At first you would not be mistaken for thinking that
LG had taken the
Iphone´s UI and applied it to the LG Arena. However there are some significant differences.
LG has named it the "S-Class 3D UI" and it essentially allows you to access all your media and contacts via a cube based 3D design. You can see a Video of it in action here.
The LG Arena has an 800 x 480 WVGA 262K colour touch screen and measures 3 inches in size. One of the things that you notice straight away is how bright the colours actually are. This goes a long way to complimenting the already intriguing user interface.
LG has been crying out for a better quality screen on its handsets for a while now and it seems that they are most of the way there with the LG Arena.
Other features include Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, GSM/UMTS/HSDPA connectivity and a 1000 mAh battery which provides 300 hours stand-by and 230 minutes of talk time.
Overall
This is a great step forward for LG and we can see great things ahead for the Arena. As long as the user interface can stand up and take a hammering, we see this as a sure fire winner. The downside? We just hope that LG´s Operating system can hold up and not crash.
